One-Page Printable Yearly Calendar

I like to see the Big Picture. Most calendars suck for that. I also have idiosyncratic wants. Here’s the list of criteria:

  • The weeks starts on Monday. I started experimenting with this a few months ago and love it. Weekends are chunk and belong together visually.
  • The days are continuous. We live an endless stream of days. The calendar should reflect this experience.
  • It fits on one printable page. I want something I can print out on regular paper, and not have to deal with cutting or assembling.

I found this near-perfect solution to my desires, but being near-perfect, I wanted to make it perfect. So I did.

Automatically Create a Specific Folder Structure with Automator & Hazel

Here’s a handy method using Automator and Hazel to automatically create a specific folder structure within a folder. I use this for client projects, since they are always the same. With this setup, I just add a new folder to my “Clients” folder, and all the standard sub-folders I need added are auto-created by Hazel, via Automator.  Continue reading “Automatically Create a Specific Folder Structure with Automator & Hazel”

1Keyboard: Type on your iPhone or iPad with yourMac

1Keyboard is a virtual bluetooth keyboard application for Mac OS X that allows you to wirelessly connect to Bluetooth enabled devices such as your iPhone, iPad and Apple TV. It does not require a wireless Bluetooth keyboard. Works great. It went from free to being a paid app since I tried it out. There’s a free demo that lasts for 2 days so you can give it a whirl.

McGizmo Clips

McGizmo Clips have proven to be the completing item in my nerdy quest for the ultimate minimalist EDC keychain setup. The A &P keyring solved the issue of easily adding or removing items (I dislike split-rings), but I found that it still didn’t work so great for that moment when the car is warming up and you realize you forgot something in the locked house.

TextExpander: Typing Shortcut Utility

TextExpander has always on the top of my must-have Mac software list. The basic functionality is simple: you type certain characters, and TextExpander replaces those characters with something else. As you can see in the screenshot above, a simple use for this is to fix commonly mistyped words. But that’s barely scratching the surface of what TextExpander offers.  Continue reading “TextExpander: Typing Shortcut Utility”

PopClip: Excellent Keyboard-Based Text Utility

PopClip for Mac is becoming one of my must-have Mac utilities. Its primary function is to do things with selected text. The app is inspired by the “action menu” for highlighted text iOS. But PopClip goes even further with the actions you can run on your selected text. Simply highlight some text, and the small action menu pop-up appears.  Continue reading “PopClip: Excellent Keyboard-Based Text Utility”

AirPrint Activator

I rarely print stuff. But sometimes one needs to. I recently purchased a Brother HL2240D laser printer, which I am very pleased with so far. Laser printers do not have ink cartridges that dry up when your printer sits unused for months at a time.

When I purchased the printer, I was not thinking about the iOS AirPrint feature, so that didn’t factor into my decision. But of course I was laying on the couch, needing to print something and realized I wish I had it.
